Top Kitchen Design Styles

There are numerous styles of kitchen design and every type is customized to fit the needs of the homeowner. Some kitchens incorporate multiple styles to create the desired look. Below are a few of the styles that the designers at Colmar Kitchen Studio specialize in and have utilized when creating stunning kitchens for their clients.

Transitional kitchens consist of a mix of natural and manufactured materials. Items like wood, stainless steel, glass and marble can be combined to create an effective space in this style of kitchen. Just like traditional kitchen design, transitional uses muted colors, but this time, they are paired with texture. This style is all about combining old styles and new.

Traditional designs also use natural materials but embrace any imperfections in wood or stone to add character to the space. This stone and wood is typically used on the floor in place of a laminate floor. This type of floor and the crown molding are what add character to the space in addition to custom range hoods and decorative lighting. Colors are usually muted in traditional kitchens and are paired with detailed cabinets.

Modern kitchens are sleek and simple and focus on space and lighting. Natural materials that are reflective are used, like marble for the countertop. Also, various storage spaces are created. Open floor plan is key in this style of kitchen. Cabinets have clear lines and no raised edges. Patterns and prints are usually not included in a modern kitchen design which adds to the elegance.

Contemporary designs consist of the specific items and designs that are “in” at the time. It includes a variety of materials with different streamlined, low maintenance and sleek surfaces, as well as, stainless steel and white appliances with unique light fixtures. Patterned backsplashes are another common trait. Also, the newest, high tech appliances are commonly included in contemporary design.

Industrial design kitchens contain exposed pipes, ducts, beams or brick which are a highlight feature. Stainless steel appliances with accents paired with wood floors, beams or accents are largely important in this space. Vintage furniture and accessories are also included to authenticate the industrial look.
